Our Marketing Apprentice Elise has worked at Essential Group of Companies for a couple of months now, in between her busy schedule she had time to write a blog on what it’s like to work in our marketing department.
I started working at Essential on Monday the 15th of August. It wasn’t just any regular Monday though, it was the day after the Essential Rounders Tournament, so the first time I had met all of my colleagues – they were in pain aching from the tournament!
During my first week at Essential, I already began to learn and grow with the company itself. I not only began learning about the Health and Social Care industry, but I also learnt how I could apply this knowledge to help others. On the Thursday we all attended a Dementia Friends training session and I became aware of how to support someone with dementia.
I learnt a lot from the information session held by a Dementia Champion, from what the disease is to how people can simplify everyday gestures such as: avoiding using clashing colours or wild patterns that could confuse someone with dementia.
In my second week, I was thrown into the deep end; I experienced a mattress audit with our Business Development Manager, Neil Dillon. The experience helped me understand how we support and service care home equipment and gave me an insight into how care homes operate. Being in the marketing department, it is vital to have knowledge of the products and services we are providing, and the best way to do this was to witness first hand our free auditing service. I learnt about how an audit is carried out, how pressure care equipment works as well as learning how other departments work to support our customers.
As August came to an end, it was time to announce our employee of the month; executing this has become an important part of my role. As I counted the votes, I noticed that most of the staff had at least one vote, showing just how much everyone respects and values each other’s hard work. I actually received two votes which I was very pleased with as a new staff member!
September came along quickly; the highlight of September for me has to be the Macmillan Coffee Morning we held. Everyone got involved and together we raised a brilliant £200 for Macmillan Cancer Support. It was a fun day raising money for a good cause, we even held a pie face russian roulette game to raise money and unfortunately Brady, our Marketing Executive and Paula, Founder of Essential Care Group were the unlucky contestants.
The sunshine has now disappeared but the hard work continues. It’s the start of autumn and we’re preparing for our busiest season, winter. We are attending the Wounds UK conference at Harrogate in November which is a huge event for our industry; it takes a lot of preparation if we want this event to go swimmingly, but I have every confidence that it will.
My first few months at Essential have come to an end, but my journey with Essential has only just begun. I have really enjoyed my time here so far and I can’t wait to learn more about our industry and how marketing makes a difference to Essential Group.
